Checking up on Mrs. Vernon is a new one-act original play written by Jasmine Kang. In it, Janine Vernon is a wealthy, older woman who frequents a local café and turns to alcohol in an attempt to lull the loneliness following the death of her husband. The few people remaining in her life - her grandniece, the employees of the café, and a telemarketer - struggle to connect her with the help she needs, while navigating their own feelings of guilt and shame in their inability to turn her life around.
